Lancaster Baked

Tonight's beer: Lancaster Baked

Lancaster Baked

Pumpkins and caramel up front, backed by heaps of baking spice: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves; maybe ginger and allspice. Toast and bread through the middle, big smears of vanilla. Possibilities of earthy-grassy bitterness toward the end, as the beer slips slightly in the direction of dry. Traces of maple and rum around the edges.

Soft and chewy, a little thick and a little syrupy-sticky. Carbonation is a little sparse but adequate. Distinctly smooth, with vague boozy prickle and maybe heat. Eventually gently drying, a little refreshing.

A very tasty beer, definitely a dessert beverage. Intense and complex, marvelously well-integrated and in the neighborhood of balanced, considering the style. Remarkably drinkable, subtly boozy. Definitely in the vicinity of liquid pumpkin pie, which it pretty much says right on the label.
