Tonight's beer: Midnight Sun Arctic Devil
Lots of caramel and toast, some pale bread around the edges. Vanilla around the middle, soft impressions of chocolate in there somewhere. Earthy-grassy bitterness struggles to emerge, eventually does alongside flickers of peat and smoke. Hints of dried figs and dates and dark spirits (mostly bourbon). Dries out a bit, eventually.
Thick, chewy, a bit dense and sticky, distinctly smooth. A fair amount of boozy heat—pretty subdued for 13.4% ABV, but there's a lot of alcohol and it's hard to hide all of it. Gradually softly drying.
Definitely a sipping beer; big and brawny and not particularly shie about it. Supple and graceful, though, and beautifully integrated. Blazingly intense, deliriously complex; nothing really like balanced. I can't figure out when this was bottled, but I've had it about a year, I think. The time in the bottle at least didn't hurt the beer. Delicious.
