Tonight's beer: Red Brick Beard Envy
Bready-toasty-caramel sweetness braced against earthy-grassy bitterness. Vanilla around the edges, butter in the distance. Bourbon and smoke and maybe peat lurking alongside figs and dates. Dries out gradually but pretty thoroughly.
Thick and bready and a little sticky. Some boozy prickle, pretty subdued for 9.3% ABV. Softly drying, eventually trending toward something like refreshing. Chewy and kinda soft.
A pretty impressive barleywine, not the complete malt-bomb the style sometimes tends to, with bourbon character nicely integrated into the whole. Intense as hell, very complex; a lot like balanced (considering the style). Drinkable enough, in a big sipping beer way. Definitely worth grabbing while we were in Georgia, and worth the bringing home.
