Flying Dog The Fear

Tonight's beer: Flying Dog The Fear

Flying Dog The Fear

Dark bread, coffee, chocolate, almost-burnt toast; mostly-woody baking spice emerges around the middle: nutmeg and coriander and mace, then cardamom and cloves and cinnamon. Caramel and molasses and maple syrupy thread through the background, opposed by earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness. Wraps up quickly and thoroughly dry.

Medium-bodied or a little thicker, bready chewy and syrupy sticky, pretty well-carbonated.Kinda dense and a little round. Eventually softly drying and gradually refreshing. Maybe a soft hint of a warm boozy glow.

A delicious beer, interestingly dark and roasty-toasty without being at all in any way a stout. Intense and complex as hell, niftily well-integrated and balanced and (I think) exactly what the brewers intended. Crazily drinkable. Perfect for a night that promises the end of autumn (even though it probably lies).
