Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XIBA

Southern Tier 2XIBA

Starts out richly bitter: chocolate, wrapped around grass and flowers and pine; coffee and grapefruit in the background. Dark bread, toast, thick smears of molasses around the middle. Dries out steeply and thoroughly.

Medium-bodied or thereabouts, with lots of carbonation. Brief chewiness and syrupy stickiness, then pretty clean; eventually cleansing and drying and refreshing. No hint of the 8% ABV.

A truly delicious Black IPA, strongly reminiscent of Iniquity—no surprise, given it's the same brewery and all-a-that. Intense as hell, impressively and appropriately complex; wonderfully well-integrated and something a lot like balanced, given the style. Staggeringly drinkable. I hope this is a beer that comes back around.
