Weyerbacher Double IPA

Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Double IPA

Weyerbacher Double IPA

Very bitter to open—musk and melons, grapefruit and pine and flowers; bready sweetness in the background, with possibilities of toast and honey.. A little sweet through the middle, then powerfully dry. Hints of pale dried fruits into the finish.

Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Scrubbing, bordering on scouring; eventually cleansing and refreshing. Some syrupy stickiness into the finish, maybe a flicker of boozy prickle.

A very tasty Double IPA—reminds me a lot of Boulevard's The Calling, as far as hops selections and balance point go. Searingly intense, awesomely complex; completely integrated, nothing like balanced. Impressively drinkable for a beer this big and this hoppy: What booze presence there is is remarkably subdued for 9% ABV. Graceful and supple and subtle. Worth looking for.
