Yards Cicada

Tonight's beer: Yards Cicada

Yards Cicada

Starts with a bright flash of bitterness: flowers and musk, citrus and pine and grass. Bready-caramel sweetness through the middle, overlaid with honey. Slides easily and steeply to stiffly dry. Dim possibilities of spice lurking around the edges.

Just a bit thicker than medium-bodied, lots of carbonation. Some bready-syrupy stickiness, eventually intensely drying, cleansing, refreshing. Absolutely no hint of the potent booze payload.

A crazily tasty and scarily drinkable bit Belgian-style IPA. Intense as hell, surprisingly well-balanced; complex for days, nicely integrated. Subtle and supple, carries its 8.6% ABV with impressive grace. I've greatly enjoyed other beers I've had from Yards, so it's no great shock that what emerges when they cut loose is delicious.
