Anchor Big Leaf Maple

Tonight's beer: Anchor Big Leaf Maple

Anchor Big Leaf Maple

Grassy-floral bitterness to open, with hints of pine and maybe citrus on the edges. Bread and toast in the background, woven with threads of caramel and maple syrup and maybe molasses. Transitions readily to a pretty quick dry finish.

Medium-bodied, with carbonation maybe a little light; some soft stickiness and syrupy-resinous stickiness, then remarkably clean and cleansing. Eventually drying and immensely refreshing.

A superb American amber ale, with some nice character from the maple syrup that went in. Intense and complex, well-balanced and integrated. Amazingly drinkable. A wonderful beer for autumn, even I'm still drinking it in January. Excellent with food. This is the last of these for me until (I'm guessing) next August. I'll be looking forward to it.
