Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (2013)
Unsweetened dark chocolate wrapped around dark almost vinous fruits, hints of coffee; dark bread and caramel emerge gradually into the middle. Slides easily toward dry, featuring smoke and ash, touches of earth and peat. Possibilities of vanilla in the distance.
Thick and dense, bready-chewy and syrupy-sticky; amply carbonated but still smooth. Viscous and leggy and coating. Gradually drying, gently warming; basically no hint or warning of the 10% ABV.
It's intriguing how two years in the bottle have brought out the fruit in this beer: dark and a little ashy. Crazily intense and complex, holding together wonderfully and something like balanced, given the style. Terrifyingly drinkable. A bit stout that ages beautifully.
