Tonight's beer: Ecliptic Filament
Launches with a blast of floral-citrussy bitterness, poised against surprising bready-fruity sweetness. Emerging pine and grass help batter down the sweetness, leaving maybe a memory of caramel. Wraps prickly dry and again bitter.
Maybe a little thicker and denser than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Chewy and very resinous-syrupy-sticky. Eventually scrubbing—almost scouring; drying and something a lot like refreshing.
A very drinkable IPA, from a brewery I hadn't tried before. Intense as hell, complex for days. Way more like balanced than I would have expected from a Northwest IPA, and wonderfully well-integrated. Poised and surefooted, supple and impressively graceful. Definitely the right way to introduce myself to these people's work.
