Tonight's beer: Flying Dog Nice
Dry pale fruits—like cider or white wine—backed by floral-grassy bitterness. Hints of earth and maybe spice in the background. White-bready sweetness emerges through the middle, falls back quickly into a sharply dry and bitter finish.
Very light-bodied, lots of carbonation. A hint of winous pucker around the edges. Drying like the Sahara, powerfully scrubbing and cleansing. Booze a soft and subtle glow.
This beer is, well, nice. Very nice, actually.: It's not the slavish imitation of Duvel I was kinda expecting, but still well within the bounds of the style. Intense, complex as hell; balanced and wonderfully well-integrated. Superbly drinkable. Probably the not the most typical Xmas beer, but Flying Dog rarely does the typical thing.
