Tonight's beer: Ommegang Lovely, Dark and Deep
Dark-roasty chocolate, backed by caramel and bread and toast. Hints of dried/candied dark fruits—cherries, figs, dates, plums—dancing with earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness. Evolves through impressions of coffee to smoothly dry.
A bit thicker than medium-bodied, smooth and a littie sticky, decently carbonated. Soft chewiness around the middle, eventually gently drying with refreshing tendencies.
An appropriately smooth, awesomely drinkable oatmeal stout. Intense and complex, balanced and beautifully integrated. Graceful and supple. A beautiful beer for winter around here (fifty degrees F, with melting snow). I'll miss Adoration if it's gone, but this works for me quite well.
