Tonight's beer: Victory Festbier
Bready sweetness to open, thickly layered with caramel, edged with toast, flecked with toffee and nuts. Grassy-earthy bitterness (with maybe notes of flowers) emerges later, lingers through a long and gradually dry finish.
A little thicker than medium-bodied, decently carbonated. A bit round and smooth, some chewiness and traces of stickiness. Smoothly drying, eventually refreshing.
A pretty straightforward Oktoberfest lager, a bit heavy on the nuts and toffee, maybe, but not unpleasant. Reasonably intense and complex, a but off-center and angular, nicely drinkable. Victory usually do excellent work; I'm surprised this seems to have landed a little sideways.
