Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment/Elysian He Said (Baltic Porter)
Starts with dark-roasty coffee and unsweetened chocolate, with smears of pumpkins and threads of caramel and baking spices. Possibly something along the lines of roasted pumpkin seeds. Deep, earthy-peaty bitterness emerges around the middle, with smoke and ash and dark vinous hints lingering into a slowly gently-dry finish.
A bit thick and dense and round, smooth but slightly sticky. Eventually, softly drying; wraps up almost flinty, with warming and prickly alcohol alongside. Finely carbonated, kinda scrubbing.
A very tasty, kinda big pumpkin porter, really not all that spice or all that sweet. Remarkably intense and complex, smoothly drinkable. Wonderfully well-integrated and surprisingly close to balanced.
