Tonight's beer: Belhaven Wee Heavy
Lots of bready sweetness, layered with caramel and toast; toffee and hints of dried fruits in the distance. Smoke and peat, earthy and grass emerge through the middle and linger into a gradually dry finish. Wispy traces of vanilla.
Thick and softly chewy, adequately carbonated; smeary-syrupy stickiness loiters a long time. Eventually a little drying, struggling toward refreshing. Maybe a soft warming glow.
A delicious Wee Heavy, bracingly authentic and unadorned. Remarkably complex and intense, definitely well on the way to being a malt-bomb but poised and confident and nowhere near falling on its face (or its ass). Supple and subtle and graceful. Amazingly drinkable. Pretty much a perfect representation of the style.
