Clown Shoes Evil Crawfish

Tonight's beer: Clown Shoes Evil Crawfish

Clown Shoes Evil Crawfish

Bitter to start (musk and flowers, pine and orange and grapefruit and grass) braced against bready-caramel sweetness. Toast around the edges. Overall impression tends toward juicy, then the beer evolves quickly toward dry.

Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some bready chewiness transitions to a big dollop of resinous-syrupy stickiness. Eventually scrubbing and drying and surprisingly refreshing. Alcohol is practically invisible.

A very impressive imperial red ale, laden with funky-modern hops. Wonderfully well-balanced, in the way the style can be; nicely complex and intense. Drinkable as hell, with little to no warning of the 9% ABV payload. Clown Shoes usually get their beers right, and this is pretty much spot-on.
