Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Winter Storm
Earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness leaning against dark-bready sweetness. Hints of caramel and flecks of toast around the edges. Dim traces of nuts and toffee, dried dark fruits, maybe spice. Slides easily to smoothly dry.
Medium-bodied (or maybe a little thicker) with decent carbonation. Some soft chewiness, traces of stickiness linger to and through a gently-drying finish.
This is, really, a very tasty beer, a somewhat odd stylistic choice (ESB) for a winter beer, probably, but it works. Intense and complex, smooth and integrated and balanced. Amazingly drinkable, supple and graceful. Works remarkable well when the weather's a bit wintry. I'm always happy to drink good beer brewed locally. This is a good beer, brewed locally.
