Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nugget Nectar
Opens imposingly bitter: flowers and pine, grapefruit and lime and other citrus; musk and melons and tropical fruits woven in. Caramel-toasty-bready sweetness falls on behind, with juice splashing around. Bitterness reasserts itself quickly, add the beer slips to dry.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some bready softness, thick smears of resinous-syrupy stickiness. Drying and refreshing; eventually cleansing and scrubbing.
One of my favorite beers on the planet. Intense as hell, gloriously complex; magnificently well-balanced and integrated. Staggeringly drinkable. Just an amazing beer, one I buy every year when it's out. Better by far than several other highly hyped beers released the same time of year.
