Tröegs Scratch 222 (Bock)

Tonight's beer: Tröegs Scratch 222 (Bock)

Tröegs Scratch 222 (Bock)

Starts out toasty-sweet, with foundational (almost buried) layers of toffee and maybe nuts; grassy-floral bitterness steps forward around the middle and lasts through a slow, gently dry finish. Dim impressions of earth, tobacco, vanilla way in the distance.

Medium-bodied, maybe a little thicker, bready-soft and chewy, traces of stickiness. Nicely carbonated, gradually cleansing and refreshing; drying by the end.

Yum. I don't grab as many bocks as I probably should: It's a style I almost invariably enjoy. Tröegs, of course, brewed an excellent one. Superbly intense and surprisingly complex, balanced and integrated (if, typically for the style, a bit linear). Drinkable as hell. Tröegs nailed this, big time.
