Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Double IPA
Starts out almost blisteringly bitter: a grassy foundation, layered with musk and flowers, tropical fruits and citrus and pine. Bready sweetness in the background, hints of caramel and maybe toast and honey; a momentary flicker that transitions rapidly to solidly dry.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some soft stickiness shades to resinous-syrupy stickiness. Slowly and gently drying, eventually some movement toward refreshing; bordering on scrubbing. Roughly no alcohol presence.
An alarmingly drinkable Double IPA, intense as hell and shockingly complex; not exactly balanced (or anything like balanced, really) but well-integrated and completely what the brewers intended (apparently). Another excellent beer from a local-ish brewery I've come to trust a good bit.
