Tonight's beer: Anchorage Galaxy
Starts out with a wall of Bretty funk, mousy and earthy; bright citrus fruits—lemons and maybe oranges—around the edges. Threads of pine, flowers, grass, pepper and spice. pale-bready sweetness flashes past, then the beer zags directly to dry, with a firmly vinous structure.
Very light-bodied, with lots and lots of carbonation. Drying and scrubbing and immensely refreshing. Wraps up with some wild-yeasty pucker against a flinty-steely frame.
One of those interesting and amazing beers where the brewery does all kinds of strange things to the beer, and the dominant flavor is the yeast. At least in this case it's Brett, which is pleasant. There are hints of what's under the Brett, which give the style qualifies this beer as complex and balanced. Impressively well-integrated and nicely drinkable. Either you like Brett or you don't, I guess.
