Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Imperial X Stout—Tart Cherry Stout
Opens with tart cherries wrapped in dark chocolate; coffee, dark bread, toast in the background. Hints of earth and grass and peat emerge through the middle and linger into a gently dry finish.Juicy tart-sweetness hangs around a long time.
Medium-bodied, pretty much; decently carbonated. Some bracing tart pucker opposing bready chewiness and a trace of syrupy stickiness. Some roundness, eventually softly drying and gradually refreshing.
Impressive. Reminds me of a bigger, brawnier, slightly tarter version of Bell's Cherry Stout. Tons of flavor, not as dominated by the cherries as one might expect; astonishingly well put together. Immensely drinkable, with basically no hint of the 11% ABV. Shockingly, Boulevard have brewed another excellent beer.
