Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Sorachi Ace
Opens up very fruity—citrussy bitterness (lemons, backed by orange and grapefruit), dried pears and apples. Grass, flowers, hints of pine around the edges, a moment of pale-bready sweetness. Dries out quickly and thoroughly, leaving a whisper of baking spice.
Very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Vastly drying and refreshing, clean and cleansing. Slight tendencies toward abrasive. Distinct pulpiness.
It had been a long time since I'd had this beer, probably too long. Pale ales and IPAs are more typically used to showcase hops varieties, but this beer makes a strong case for saisons and other farmhouse ales. Tons of flavor, here, complex as hell and impressively intense; pretty well-balanced and wonderfully integrated. Shockingly drinkable, and a beer that promises to dance beautifully with food.
