Tonight's beer: Flying Dog Nice
Opens suprisingly cidery—all fermented apples with hints of pears. Pale bread emerges around the middle, edged with caramel and closely followed by grassy-floral bitterness. Dries out quickly and thoroughly.
Just on the light side of medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Maybe a trace of stickiness, mostly clean, cleansing drying, refreshing. Practically no indication of the 8% ABV.
A very tasty beer that (in some ways) reminds me more than a little of a nice cider—there's that much apple in it. Much less of a slavish Duvel imitation than one might expect. Nicely intense, impressively complex, holds together well. Maybe a bit heavy on the cider but not obnoxious. Delicious, if pretty idiosyncratic as a Chirstmas beer.
