Foothills Frostbite

Tonight's beer: Foothills Frostbite

Foothills Frostbite

Chocolate and coffee, layered with dark-toasty bread; piny-resinous and citrussy-juicy bitterness wrapped all around. Hints of flowers and grass and musk. Maybe a momentary glimpse of caramel. Dries out gradually but thoroughly.

Medium-bodied, lots of carbonation. Syrupy and resinous, lots of stickiness; hints of soft chewiness. Eventually drying and refreshing, kinda scrubbing.

Apparently, brewers are making fewer Black IPAs than they used to; that's a shame, far as I'm concerned. This is a superb example of the style. Intense as hell, remarkably complex; something a lot like balanced, remarkably well-integrated, gloriously drinkable. Graceful and supple. I haven't had much from Foothills, but they have a reputation that seems pretty well-earned to me (based on that limited experience).
