Tonight's beer: Left Hand Wake Up Dead
Thick, rich chocolate, layered with coffee, toffee, nuts; dark bread edged with toast and smeared with caramel right behind. Earthy-grassy bitterness appears around the middle. Sprinklings of smoke and ash, burnt fruits and peat. Vanilla and spice lurk on the periphery. Wraps up slowly dry.
Thick and soft, chewy and dense and sticky. Roasty-drying and coating. Some gentle warmth, remarkably subdued for 10.2% ABV. More oily than bready or syrupy; notably smooth.
A tasty imperial stout, clearly unharmed (to say the least) by however long it's sat around in the bottle. This is intense and complex in the way a big stout should be, wonderfully well-integrated and surprisingly balanced; shockingly drinkable. Graeful and supple and subtle. Yum.
