Tonight's beer: Ninkasi Helles Belles
Opens with a flash of floral-grassy bitterness, edged with sulfur (especially at the beginning). Pale-bready sweetness emerges around the middle, leads into a quickly-drying finish. Maybe a ribbon of caramel around the edge.
Just a touch lighter than medium-bodied, with lots of carbonation. A short chewy moment, then drying and refreshing, clean and cleansing and scrubbing.
Impressively precise and just about exactly spot-on the style. Graceful and subtle, balanced and superbly well-integrated. Pretty intense for 5.3% ABV. Astonishingly drinkable. Seems as though it would be immediately accessible to someone not into craft beer—not a bad thing, I think. Also seems as though it would play well with food.
