Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Collaboration #5 / Cigar City Tropical Pale Ale

Opens intensely bitter and a bit tart, extensively fruity; loads of tropical fruits, backed by melons, musk, citrus, flowers, pine. Bready sweetness in the background, hints of caramel a little pulpy around the edges.  Dries out smoothly and a bit gradually, but thoroughly.

Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated, kinda juicy. Gently scrubbing, eventually mildly drying and quite refreshing. Clean and cleansing. Just a trace of lingering stickiness on the back end.

A pretty tasty take on what's kinda a thing, these days—the tropical pale ale/IPA (mango seems to be favored for this). Tropical fruits aren't my favorite thing in the world, but they're not overpowering in this as I was afraid they would be. Nicely intense and complex, pretty well-balanced and -integrated. Impressively drinkable. Possibly getting to the end of its shelf life, but no complaints here. Two brewers I respect a good deal worked together to make a good beer; it's shocking, I know.
