Tonight's beer: Sixpoint Hi-Res

Sixpoint Hi-Res

Starts off explosively, dankly bitter, with musk layered atop pine and complex citrus (grapefruit, orange, lime); threads of flowers and grass and tropical fruits weave and zig and zag alongside. Bready sweetness flashes past momentarily, trailing a possibility of caramel; then the bitterness reasserts itself like a gentle fist to the face as the beer dries out.

Syrupy-resinous stickiness, thick and chewy and coating. Carbonation a little sparse and sluggish but adequate. Slowly, gently drying, eventually almost refreshing. Absolutely zero alcohol presence.

A terrifyingly drinkable Double IPA. Intense as hell and shockingly complex, distinctly one-sided but poised and graceful and supple. Delicious from start to finish. It's a wild ride—appropriately for the style—but it's worth the go.
