Tröegs Mad Elf

Tonight's beer: Tröegs Mad Elf

Tröegs Mad Elf

Tart cherries, surprisingly dry, to open; Honey and bready sweetness filling in behind, hints of caramel, raisins (and other dried dark fruits), spice. Possibilities of rum in the distance.

Very light-bodied, well-carbonate.  Drying and scrubbing and impressively refreshing. Basically no hint of the 11% ABV.  Thin lingering threads of stickiness into the finish.

I've heard tell this beer ages well; this has been sitting around here maybe half a year, and I'd swear it's dried out some. If we didn't have such a weakness for this beer, I'd think about trying to age some. As it stands, the cherries have mellowed and receded some, but they're still pretty dominant; there's a lot of flavor here, pretty straightforward. Amazingly drinkable.
