Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nugget Nectar
Opens explosively bitter, with shards and shrapnel of grapefruit and pine, grass and flowers and maybe musk; threads of other citrus—line and orange—in the distance. Bready sweetness emerges briefly as a counterpoint, edges with caramel and hints of toast. Wraps up quickly bitter and completely dry.
In the vicinity of medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A bit chewy; lots of resinous-syrupy stickiness lingering, eventually evolving toward scrubbing, drying, and refreshing.
This is the last of this, this year. Oh, well. it's one of my favorite beers, period. Tons of flavor—complex and astonishingly intense—wonderfully integrated and surprisingly balanced. Terrifyingly drinkable. We'll get more next year, for certain.
