Tonight's beer: Local Option Dampf Loc
Bready sweetness, edged with toast and caramel; ample (but not punishing) bitterness alongside: grass and hay and earth maybe flowers and pine. Toffee and nuts, hints of dried fruits in the background. Ends sharply and thoroughly dry.
Medium-bodied, with good carbonation. Threads of thin stickiness, eventually briskly drying and powerfully refreshing.
I'm not familiar with the style, that I know of, but this is a remarkably pleasant beer. The thumbnail description that popped into my mind was "German Farmhouse Ale": It just hit those notes and buttons. Reasonably intense and complex, given the moderate alcohol level; nicely balanced and well-integrated. Impressively drinkable and very, very nice.
