Tonight's beer: South Street Imperial Satan's Pony
Bready-sweet to open, thickly layered with caramel and vanilla; flecks of toast around the edges. Grassy-floral-earthy bitterness fills in around and through the middle. Slides easily and smoothly to surprisingly dry, with hints of baking spice in the distance.
Medium-bodied, smooth, a little chewy, thin traces of stickiness lingering. Decent carbonation some gentle boozy warmth—pretty subdued for 9% ABV. Finishes mostly clean, distinctly dry and refreshing.
Very impressive. A pretty big beer that's remarkably approachable and shockingly drinkable. Very intense and complex (big beers often are) but astonishingly well-balanced and integrated. We took a turn slightly out of our way to the store where we got this; we'll probably have to go back.
