Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XSMASH
Just a ton of juicy-pulpy bitterness to open, layers of tropical fruits (mango? papaya? melons? I dunno specifics, here) backed by musk and flowers; threads of citrus and pine and grass woven in. Pale bread in the background, just enough to form a palette or a platform for all those hoppy flavors. Wraps up quickly pleasantly dry.
Medium-bodied, almost juicy; well-carbonated. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness, quickly clean and cleansing, drying and immensely refreshing. At 8.1% ABV, kinda low-test for a Double IPA, but even so the alcohol is remarkably well-hidden.
A devastatingly drinkable Double IPA, from a brewery I know I'm a huge, irrational, probably unbearable fan of. Intense as hell and shockingly complex, heavily tipped toward hoppy, but well-put-together. Graceful and supple and poised. Yum!
