Tonight's beer: Founders Dark Penance
Dark chocolate and coffee wrapped in grass in flowers to open; threads of pine and citrus in the weave, toast in the distance. Brown sugar and/or maple around the edges, with bready sheets around the middle. Slides easily to dry by the finish.
Medium-bodied, maybe a touch thicker/heavier; nicely carbonated. A little soft and chewy, mostly clean with thin thready stickiness lingering briefly before a notably dry and almost refreshing finish. Basically no alcohol presence.
Turns out this was bottle like eight months ago (I didn't check in the store) but it's still delicious; not shockingly hoppy but tasty. Plenty of flavor here, complex and intense; surprisingly balanced and nicely integrated. Scarily drinkable. Holding together well, if probably on the old side.
