Tonight's beer: Three Notch'd Hydraulion
Bready sweetness, layered with caramel and toast, to open. Some soft bitterness arises in the background: peat and tea, earth and grass. Maybe a touch of dried/candied fruit in there somewhere. Dries out somewhat, gradually.
Possibly a bit thicker than medium-bodied, softly chewy but decently carbonated. Some slight lingering stickiness, eventually kinda cleansing and drying and pleasantly refreshing.
A nice Irish Red Ale, from a brewery entirely new to me; recommended to us when we stopped in Richmond a few weeks back. Pretty intense and complex for 5.3% ABV, typically eager-to-please for the style. Balanced and poised and impressively drinkable.
