Tonight's beer: Tröegs Scratch 212
Lots and lots of chocolate to open, threads of coffee and caramel; bread and toast lurk in the background. Earth and peat and grass waft past around the middle. Dries out slowly, almost reluctantly; lingers sweet for a long time.
Pretty thick, soft and chewy; nicely carbonated. Some thin traces of syrupy stickiness, then the beer clears quickly. Gently drying, tending toward refreshing.
A tasty and very chocolaty stout, but one that isn't completely dominated by the chocolate. very intense and complex, marvelously drinkable. I dunno how likely beers form the Scratch Series are to make it into the regular lineup, but I'd love to see Tröegs release this more widely.
