21st Amendment Lower De Boom (2013)

Starts out notably sweet—bread and caramel, dark dried fruits (cherries, plums, grapes, figs, dates); toast and nuts and toffee around the middle. Earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness emerges eventually, flickers of pine and citrus on the perimeter. Dim wayward impressions of baking spice and vanilla. Wraps up quickly, pretty dry.

Bready-thick and softly chewy, nicely carbonated. Hints of soft stickiness—kinda syrupy, kinda resinous—then slides easily and quickly to clean and nicely dry. Surprisingly refreshing for such a big
(11.5% ABV) beer.

A truly delicious barleywine, a big beer in a small can. Intense as hell and incredibly complex, alarmingly well-balanced and holding together well after three years in the can. One of my favorite barleywines, one I buy whenever I see it.
