Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Saison-Brett

Starts with a flash of earthy-grassy bitterness, evolves to earthy-funky Brett character mingles with pale-bready sweetness. Dried fruits—pears and white grapes and apples, mostly—and hints of bright spice flicker past, then the beer dries out steeply and sharply and completely.

Very light-bodied, highly carbonated. Scrubbing and scouring, drying and massively refreshing. Just a touch of soft bready chewiness, then notably clean. No hint of the 8.5% ABV.

A delicious beer, probably fresher than I'm used to (both for the style and this specific example), given that it's not completely (or particularly) dominated by the Brett. Intense as heck and wondrously complex, nicely poised and integrated and balanced-ish (Brett does tend to take over). One of my first Bretty beers, and I think the first thing I ever had from Boulevard. A most excellent introduction to both.
