Ninkasi Noir

This afternoon's beer: Ninkasi Noir

Ninkasi Noir

Starts out deeply roasty-bitter: coffee and dark chocolate, hints of toast and dark bread. Caramel and molasses emerge gradually through the middle. Vanilla and maybe a touch of spice on the fringes. Dries out smoothly and quickly, as earth and peat and grass arise alongside resurgent dark roasty notes (chocolate and coffee again).

A bit thicker than medium-bodied, smooth and slippery, decently carbonated. A fair amount of syrupy stickiness lingers into a moderately drying finish. Wraps up surprisingly refreshing.

A superb coffee stout, smooth and drinkable. Intense as hell and crazily complex, something a lot like balanced (given the style) and well-integrated. One of the first Ninkasi beers I grabbed, once they started distributing in my area, and I'm happy I did.
