Tröegs Nimble Giant

Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nimble Giant

Tröegs Nimble Giant

Opens searingly and explosively bitter: flowers and musk, pineapples and melons and other tropical fruits; pine and grass and citrus mostly in supporting roles. Rapidly evolves to juicy, almost-sweet, with impressions of bread and maybe caramel. Dries out quickly and severely, leaving traces of musk and spice on the lingering finish.

Maybe a little lighter than medium-bodied, very well-carbonated.  Hints of resinous-syrupy stickiness, mostly clean and cleansing. Steeply drying, impressively refreshing. Alarmingly little alcohol presence.

A big and brawny—but nimble!—Double IPA, from one of my favorite more-or-less-local breweries. Giddily intense and madly complex; nothing like balanced, but intentional and graceful and well-put-together. Terrifyingly drinkable. I gather Tröegs took their time getting this recipe right, and it shows.
