Tonight's beer: Schmaltz She'brew
Opens bracingly bitter—mostly grassy and floral, hints of pine around the edges, maybe a fleck of citrus. Enough caramel-bready sweetness to top the beer hard toward juicy. Wraps up gradually pretty dry, with re-emergent bitterness.
A bit thicker than medium-bodied, softly chewy and resinous-syrupy-sticky. Carbonation is a little sparse but more or less adequate. Wraps up leaning toward drying and refreshing with a hint of boozy prickle (pretty subdued for 11% ABV).
A big Double IPA, maybe less bitter than I was expecting—enough so that I wonder if this maybe sat around for a while, somewhere along the way; still tasty, though. More like balanced than is typical for the style, impressively intense and complex. A delicious beer—my expectations not withstanding—from a brewery I've had lots of good beers from.
