Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nimble Giant

Tröegs Nimble Giant

Opens with a wall of bitterness: flowers, musk, tropical fruits, hints of pine and grass and citrus. That wall erodes through the middle, revealing pale-bready sweetness, for a moment; that fades quickly, leaving the field to the bitterness, and eventually to an almost Saharan dryness.

Nicely light-bodied for a 9% ABV beer, with good carbonation. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness lingers a while, eventually cleans and scrubbing—almost scouring. Drying and remarkably refreshing, with almost no hint of the sizable alcohol payload.

A beautiful Double IPA, from a brewery local enough to visit as a daytrip. Intense as hell and staggeringly complex, wonderfully poised and well-integrated. Drinkable for days, in the way excellent Double IPAs are.  A beautiful beer for a hot summer, also seems as though it would be impressively food-friendly for the style.
