Tonight's beer: Avery The Maharaja
Opens with a blast of citrus—juicy and bittersweet, limes and oranges on a grapefruity spine; grass and flowers top the balance toward bitter, a touch of pine around the edges. Caramel and bread arise through the middle, wrest the tiller back toward sweet—at least for a moment, before the beer veers to bitter and then impressively dry.
Pretty much medium-bodied, maybe a little thicker; well-carbonated. Ample lingering resinous stickiness but eventually scrubbing and cleansing, drying and a lot like refreshing. No warning of the 10.2% ABV.
A superbly delicious Double IPA, one of my long-term favorites in the style. Intense as hell and nicely complex, well-integrated and a lot like balanced. Impressively drinkable.
