Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Punkin
Starts out quite sweet, with caramel and brown sugar wrapped around pumpkins; baking spices—cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger—sprinkled over the top. Hints of earthy bitterness in the background, sliding forward through the finish as the beer manages to dry out just a little.
A bit thicker than medium-bodied, decently carbonated. Thick smears of syrupy stickiness, eventually gently drying with tendencies toward refreshing.
A tasty pumpkin beer, probably the first I had, many moons ago. Doesn't put a foot wrong, a pretty-near-ideal spiced pumpkin beer (though there are several I like at least as well). Intense and complex and poised and nicely integrated; remarkably drinkable for what is really a dessert beer.
