Tonight's beer: Hardywood Give Bock
Toffee and nuts on top of caramel and toast. Earthy-peaty-grassy bitterness a slightly subdued counterpoint. Hints of flowers and spice in the distance. Maybe some dried dark fruits. Slides easily to surprisingly dry.
A little thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Bready-soft and chewy, with some lingering syrup stickiness. Drying into the finish, wrapping up almost refreshing.
A superb bock from a brewery whose beers I try to pick up whenever I see them. Nicely intense and complex—maybe a little linear; poised and graceful and supple, if not exactly balanced. Impressively drinkable. I'm always happy to drink a bock.
