Tonight's beer:
Caramel, molasses, maple syrup to open; thick layers of pumpkins behind, sprinkled heavily with cloves and allspice, dusted with nutmeg and cinnamon and ginger. Maybe a trace of vanilla. Toast and dark bread through the middle, then emergent earthy-peaty-grassy bitterness into a slowly dry finish.
A little thicker than medium-bodied, well-carbonated. some chewy softness, thick sheets of syrupy stickiness. Quietly drying, tenting toward refreshing. Maybe a touch of boozy prickle—very subdued for 9% ABV.
A tasty and well-made pumpkin beer, from a pretty local brewery. Startlingly intense and imposingly complex, nicely balanced and well-integrated. Immensely drinkable for such a big beer. One of the pumpkin beers I make a point to grab every year, even a year like this when we consciously bought fewer.
