Flying Dog The Fear

Tonight's beer:

Flying Dog The Fear

Starts off with a pretty dense cloud of baking spice: cloves and allspice, backed by cinnamon and ginger; pumpkins and toast emerge right behind. Caramel and molasses and vanilla on the edges. Earthy-peaty-bitterness arises around a finish that gradually slopes to quite dry.

On the thick side of medium-bodied, with a healthy amount of carbonation. Steeply drying, some lingering thick stickiness, eventually gently cleansing and almost refreshing. Maybe a dim flicker of boozy warmth, pretty subdued for 9% ABV.

A tasty-as-hell pumpkin beer, from a brewery that's reasonably near to me and generally good-to-excellent. Intense as heck, and impressively complex; very well-integrated and pretty close to balanced. Nicely drinkable, and much less of a dessert beer than many other pumpkin beers. Pumpkin bread, not pumpkin pie. One I go out of my way to pick up every year.
