Tonight's beer:
Opens with caramel-nutty sweetness layered with bread, dark dried fruits (mainly dates and figs, some cherries); toast and toffee woven in. Earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness lurks around the edges, with possibilities of coffee and dark chocolate and smoke and vanilla. Slides gradually toward dry, doesn't quite get there.
Thick, bready-soft and chewy, with lots of thick stickiness. Decently carbonated. Some easy dryness, eventually edges toward cleansing. Surprisingly close to refreshing. A touch of boozy warmth, filling and satisfying.
A very tasty Wee Heavy—a style I like tons—from a brewery I like tons. Intense as hell and startlingly complex (I wasn't expecting chocolate or coffee); nicely integrated and massively drinkable, just a bit of a malt-bomb. Superb.
