Tonight's beer:
Opens with firm bitterness: grass, backed by peat and earth; toasty-nutty sweetness fills in quickly just beneath, with skeins of toffee and caramel. Hints of dried fruits and maybe a touch of citrus; tobacco and baking spice lurking on the edges. Wraps up quickly and smoothly dry.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some bready-soft chewiness evolves to lingering stickiness. Cleansing, powerfully drying and refreshing.
A superbly tasty ESB, and very convincing. Intense and complex—especially for 5.5% ABV; nicely balanced and integrated. Astoundingly drinkable. I'm pretty sure I've had something from Green Man before (probably in a restaurant in North Carolina), but I've never taken notes on anything of theirs. I'm impressed; this is a delicious beer.
